About Lori
Lori Cusano is the Director of Steiner Ranch Tennis.
Lori came into teaching tennis accidentally. Twenty-plus years ago here in Steiner Ranch, she and her husband Lou wanted their 3-year twins to play tennis. The former Head Coach of the University of Miami’s Men’s team, John Hammill, was teaching a young juniors’ group (including the twins) and he asked her for help.
Lori was a sponge, soaking up his delivery, energy, knowledge, respect of students and joy of accomplishment both big and small. As she continued teaching, her love of tennis coupled with a curiosity around effective teaching methods honed her philosophy and skills. Over years, she has built a thriving tennis community in Steiner Ranch through the development of adult and junior programs.
Lori’s philosophy is to teach basic strokes with proper form and technique while hitting tons of balls. As form and technique improve, she introduces tennis strategy resulting in well-rounded players. Positive reinforcement, excitement, fun and energy keep kids and adults wanting to play more tennis!
“Each day whether teaching or competing, tennis shapes my character on and off the court for the better”
This award is given to tennis professionals for outstanding teaching abilities who work to promote, grow and develop tennis in the Capital Area.
About the Coaches
Lori hand picks and mentors the coaches that teach alongside her. She looks for coaches with patience, tennis expertise and a positive attitude. Some of her current coaches started even with her as juniors!
When camps are in session, Lori and her staff communicate daily to ensure the juniors are in the best fitting class and are experiencing success through a variety of drills and games. Safety, respect and good sportsmanship are also regularly reinforced.
