Beginner Stroke Tips

Forehand

  • Concept

Visualize standing in water up to your shins. Your racket starts from just dipping in the water, moves through and then up out of the water

  • Grip

    - With a racket edge facing you, place your dominant hand on your strings

    - Keeping the racket in that same position, slide your dominant hand down near the bottom of the grip so the V of your hand lines up with the racket edge. Be sure your fingers are together.

  • Preparation

    - With your left shoulder facing the net and feet apart hip width, point the top of your racket toward the fence behind you with the racket head in a somewhat low position.

    - Extend your left arm from the shoulder so your body is balanced

  • Swing Path

    - Swing from low (the starting point) to high being sure to follow through all the way up to your left shoulder.

    - Your swinging arm should be relaxed and your grip should be firm.

  • Contact Point

Ideally you want to make contact with the ball near waist level and slightly in front of your left foot.
